They wanted to change that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investors questioned why they wanted to build their own technology instead of using global APIs. But the founders were clear that they wanted to build in India.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They chose voice because it is the most natural way people communicate. They&nbsp;felt that technology had reached&nbsp;a point where it could solve real problems and deliver results for businesses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Undo<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking back, Ganesh says they started in all the wrong ways. They built the technology first and figured out the use case later. The team developed speech-to-text systems for 10\u201312 Indian languages, using their own money and going without salaries for years. But they still needed to find a problem customers would pay them to solve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After two years of building the technology, the team began speaking to customers across industries to understand their needs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One conversation with their customer TVS Credit changed things.&nbsp;One customer pointed out that&nbsp;voice AI could help the lending industry, where there was a shortage of contact centre staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team was asked to build a system that could have conversations like a contact centre employee. They put it together in just a couple of days, with the system also tracking calls and their outcomes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around the same time, they signed their first insurance customer. When COVID hit, more businesses needed ways to reach customers remotely.&nbsp;These early customers helped Gnani.ai find real problems its technology could solve. Today,&nbsp;it&nbsp;has around 250 customers across the US, India, UAE, Philippines and Japan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Scale Lesson<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ganesh\u2019s approach to scaling is simple. <strong>When a solution works for one customer, find similar customers who need it too.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gnani.ai started by serving customers in banking and financial services, building on what worked before expanding into other industries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ganesh also advises founders not to build a business that needs a new solution for every customer. Instead, focus on solving a common problem and creating a solution that can be used again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Business Test<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ganesh, what matters is not how much technology a business uses, but what it helps the customer achieve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gnani.ai may measure the minutes of conversation handled by its system or, in lending, the number of new loans generated. The metric depends on the customer&#8217;s goals, but founders need to track whether their product delivers the expected results. That is what helps retain customers and build a lasting business.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Playbook<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gnani.ai&#8217;s journey shows that a working AI model is only the beginning. Ganesh believes founders should start with a specific customer and answer three questions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who will use your product?<\/strong> &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Understand who will use it and what problem they need to solve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who will pay for it?<\/strong> &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The person using the product may not be the person paying for it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Why will they pay for your product?<\/strong> &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Be clear about what makes your solution worth paying for.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finding these answers takes time and many customer conversations. His advice is to listen and keep learning. Debt collection, for example, was not an area the team had planned to enter. Customer conversations helped them discover the opportunity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Working technology isn\u2019t the finish line.
